Electricity theft

Sir: With reference to your editorial, “Electricity theft and politics”, January 28, everyone knows that politicians do not wish to deprive their financers of free electricity.

One way of reducing power theft is to appoint contractors on commission basis to collect dues from areas where theft is rampant. For recovery of dues from the government departments, the obvious solution is to stop supplying power to the defaulters unless they pay their arrears, maybe in instalments.

As for those VVIPs who think they can get away with defaulting on their bills, they should be prevented from standing in elections and their names should be put on the Exit Control List, besides taking other legal actions against them.
