Tax ’em all!
This refers to the editorial ‘Crashing banks’
(April 15). Perhaps the main reason for our fiscal crisis is the refusal to
impose income tax on the agricultural income of our parliamentarians. As if
this weren’t enough, our rulers have also managed to use their power to get
their own and their spouses’ loans written off.
Among those who did this during the past five
years was Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Hina
Rabbani Khar (who paid income tax amounting to less than the price of her
handbag). If the country is to be saved, all the written-off loans should be
recovered and agricultural income should be taxed.
