Moon sighting

This is with reference to the news item ‘Ruet-e-Hilal body should accept evidence from KP, says governor’ in The News (September 3). I would like to ask the learned KP governor why Mualana Popalzai always announces the sighting of the moon more than three hours after sunset and that too only after receiving news that it has been seen in Saudi Arabia. Why doesn’t the cleric openly say that Eid in Pakistan should be on the same day as in Saudi Arabia?
Secondly, out of a population of millions, only 20 people said they saw the moon even though experts had already said that it wouldn’t be sighted that day. These 20 witnesses should have been questioned thoroughly or subjected to lie-detector tests before their testimony was accepted.
