Helping our feudals

Monday, May 25, 2009

All my feudal friends were highly relieved to read the information minister’s statement that agriculture would be taxed only “after the government was satisfied that farmers were receiving sufficient returns on their crops.” As everyone knows by now, agriculturists are living very slightly above the poverty level, and only a few hundred have been able to get elected to the assemblies. Most of them own only a few cars and a small number of houses in posh areas while only a very few of them have private jets.

Only the blind would believe that they are earning anything from their crops. If any tax is levied on agricultural income, these poor chaps will have no alternative but to beg for survival. The government should not even think of taxing them, rather it should create a special fund to help them attain a decent standard of living.
