I agree with the views expressed in the article “Poetic Justice in US Meltdown” on October 9.

But there is other side of the story as well. The Americans today are paying for living beyond their means, and taking the world economy for a ride. The situation today is worse than the 1930 economic crash, and I believe hard times are yet to come.
However, it will be a blessing in disguise for the poor if the economic recession results in reduced spending and greater conversation of energy.
