Free the crooks?

Published in the Friday Times on August 10, 2007

Sir,

There are credible reports that the government will quash the corruption against Benazir Bhutto so that she can return to Pakistan and become Prime Minister again. Just who has given the President the right to quash the corruption case against Ms Bhutto after spending millions on prosecuting her? Who will compensate the nation for the huge amount spent on the case? And if the government withdraws from this case, why should it prosecute the thousands who are being tried for all kinds of crimes? Why not free all the criminals who are languishing in jails or even living in death row? Come to think of it, what was the need for conducting Operation Silence?
