HONEST OFFICER: This refers to the report ‘Cop lauded by judge for refusing Rs1.6m in bribe’ (June 14). I was shocked to read that the policeman dared to stop the truck carrying smuggled betel nuts and also refused to accept the bribe that was offered. Ironically, in a country where even legal brains sometimes argue that smuggling should be legalised, and policemen have to pay lakhs of rupees to get jobs and even more to get posted to ‘lucrative areas’, the honest policeman should be examined by a team of psychiatrists to ensure he is ‘normal’.
